Amarillo Sod Poodles

Sod Poodles last game update before their road trip.

Frisco, Texas (May 21, 2023) – The Amarillo Sod Poodles secured a 3-1 victory over Frisco, concluding their series on Sunday. Chad Patrick, Amarillo's starter, pitched a season-high number of innings and earned his first win of the year.

The game started with both teams being retired in order in the opening frame. Patrick's skillful play resulted in a double play, neutralizing a potential threat after a leadoff walk.

In the second inning, Amarillo's Adrian Del Castillo reached scoring position with a walk and advanced on a wild pitch. However, Amarillo couldn't capitalize, and the game moved to the bottom of the second.

Frisco took the lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly, scoring a run after the first two batters reached base on hits.

Patrick handled the third inning well, striking out two batters after issuing a walk. Amarillo's offense struggled, and Tekoah Roby, Frisco's talented prospect, continued his impressive pitching performance.

Patrick remained dominant in the fourth inning, recording a 1-2-3 inning and adding two more strikeouts to his tally.

Amarillo leveled the score in the fifth inning after Roby exited the game. Del Castillo's leadoff single turned into a run thanks to a pair of walks and a sacrifice fly by Nick Dalesandro. The game entered the final frames tied at 1-1 after Frisco's leadoff single was countered by a sac bunt and two outs.

In the sixth inning, Amarillo took the lead with Jordan Lawlar scoring on Deyvison De Los Santos's RBI single. Despite loading the bases, Amarillo couldn't add more runs.

Patrick started the sixth inning strong but was replaced by Andrew Saalfrank after a two-out walk. Saalfrank struck out a left-handed batter, maintaining Amarillo's one-run advantage.

Amarillo extended their lead to two runs in the seventh inning, as Dalesandro showcased his baserunning skills and scored after a leadoff walk, a passed ball, a wild pitch, and a balk. Saalfrank faced some trouble in the bottom of the inning with two walks but managed to escape unharmed with two strikeouts.

In the eighth inning, right-hander Blake Workman induced three ground balls in his only inning of relief. Amarillo left a runner stranded in the ninth, but Christian Montes De Oca sealed the victory with a flawless inning, including a final strikeout, earning his second save of the year.

Next, Amarillo will head to San Antonio to face the San Diego Padres' Double-A affiliate, the San Antonio Missions, as part of their 12-game road trip. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, at 7:05 p.m. in Nelson Wolff Stadium.
