Weekly Weather

The weather forecast for the following week looks more promising, but you may have to change your plans from spring break pool parties to summer break pool parties.

A New Name For The Sod Poodles

Sorry, the title may have been a bit clickbaity, but the news is true. The Sod Poodles have a new alternate identity called the Amarillo Calf Fries, but they will still keep their original name. They will play six games under this new identity this year to engage more fans locally and nationally. We think the new name is fitting for Amarillo and a great way to promote the team. The idea was to engage more fans locally and nationally and if you know what we stand for and our goal this is a great thing.

To achieve this goal, the Sod Poodles have introduced new jerseys and hats with different colors and logos, which fans can purchase to represent the Calf Fries' new identity. You can find and buy them using the link below.

On April 15, the first Calf Fries Night of the season will take place during the game against the Corpus Christi Hooks. Additional Calf Fries Nights are scheduled for May 13, June 15, July 16, August 4, and August 31. Also, as part of the 2023 promotional schedule, the team will be giving away a Calf Fries replica jersey to the first 1,500 fans in attendance on Sunday, June 4.

We would assume that on these nights there will be some delicious calf fries available for purchase throughout the ball park!

Everything You Need To Know About EV Charging In Our City & What's To Come

We have had several requests for the information and for good reason. Residents of Amarillo have good reason to to questions and know the growth of EV charging and how our city intends to respond this EV "revolution" so many have been talking about over the years.

Will we see enough charging stations in Amarillo to meet the group of EV over the next few year? Will our city except and adopt this new form of transportation? These are all great questions that we will continue to touch on over the next few years.

This is no seceret that the presence of refineries in Amarillo and the surrounding areas may have some impact on how residents and businesses feel towards electric vehicles (EVs). For example, people who work in the oil and gas industry or those who have ties to the industry may have some hesitation or resistance towards adopting EVs. This may be due to concerns about job security or potential economic impacts on the region.

However, it's worth noting that Amarillo is a city that prides itself on being open to innovation and progress. There are several organizations and initiatives in the area that promote sustainability and clean energy, which could encourage more people to consider electric vehicles. Additionally, as the technology for EVs continues to improve, they may become more appealing to people who are concerned about the environment or interested in reducing their carbon footprint.

Overall, while the presence of refineries in the area may have some impact on perceptions of EVs, it's likely that attitudes towards electric vehicles in Amarillo will be shaped by a variety of factors, including economics, environmental concerns, and technological advancements.

The Growth Of EV

The growth of electric vehiclesin the United States has been significant in recent years. According to the International Energy Agency, the number of electric cars on the world's roads surpassed 10 million in 2020, and the US accounted for approximately 17% of global EV sales in that year.

One factor contributing to the growth of EVs in the US is government incentives and regulations. Federal tax credits of up to $7,500 are available for new EV purchases, and many states offer additional incentives such as rebates, grants, or exemptions from emissions inspections.

Another factor is the increasing availability of EV models from major automakers. Tesla, Chevrolet, Nissan, and other companies have introduced EVs with longer driving ranges and more affordable prices, making them more accessible to consumers.

Charging infrastructure has also expanded rapidly in the US. As of 2021, there are over 100,000 public charging stations in the country, including fast-charging stations that can charge an EV in as little as 30 minutes.

Finally, concerns about climate change and air pollution have contributed to the growth of EVs in the US and around the world. Many consumers are seeking out cleaner, more sustainable transportation options, and electric vehicles offer a promising solution.

Overall, the growth of EVs in the US is expected to continue in the coming years as technology improves, infrastructure expands, and more consumers adopt electric vehicles.

EV Charging In Amarillo

In Amarillo, there are several options for electric vehicle (EV) charging. Some of the charging stations in the city include:

  • ChargePoint: ChargePoint is a network of EV charging stations that can be found in various locations throughout the city, including hotels, shopping centers, and restaurants.

  • Tesla Supercharger: There is one Tesla Supercharger in Amarillo, located at 8510 I-40 East. This charging station is only compatible with Tesla vehicles.

  • EVgo: EVgo is another charging network with stations located in several areas in and around Amarillo. These stations are compatible with various EV models.

There are now over a 100 charging stations in Amarillo. We have linked a website that has a map of all of the current charging stations in Amarillo as well as which are the top rated stations you can find. They even have a great app you can download to help you find stations wherever you may be.

If you are on a long drive to and from Amarillo you can find EV charging stations in Plainview, Lubbock, Childress & even Dumas now.

EV Growth In Amarillo

Looking ahead, the EV market is expected to continue growing in the Amarillo area. As more people switch to electric vehicles, there may be an increase in demand for charging infrastructure. In response, more charging stations may be installed around the city, including high-speed charging stations that can charge EVs in a shorter amount of time.

The technological adavancements in chargers will help speed up the process of charging and hopefully make these stations more available across Amarillo. However, we feel for these to be brought to Amarillo at a large scale it would need to be kick started by private investors which will then lead to new EV purchases as residents feel more comfortable being able to find a place to charge in Amarillo.

Additionally, there may be an increase in public and private investment in EV charging infrastructure, including incentives for businesses to install charging stations. This could lead to more charging options for EV drivers and encourage more people to make the switch to electric vehicles.

We have not found much for city plans on EV plans for the future.
