Historic Rain Fall & The Effect

Amarillo has been hit with more rainfall and severe flooding over the past week. After the area has already received 5.11 inches of rain, causing major flooding, we continued to see more rainfall in the following days. Playa lakes are overflowing, including McDonald Lake. The Canadian River is close to if not has now reached its record height.

As the week rolls on we do have some chances of rain but nothing like we have seen in previous days. Please plan accordingly to road closures and plan ahead for delays. The rainfall and flooding has caused some tragedy, closures and other issues in the area so please be kind and thoughtful when making your way around as normal operations and living for others may have been changed and this is out of their control.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch until June 6th. Residents are advised to stay off the roads and avoid flooded areas.
